FAQ
HDMI 2.1 is the successor to HDMI 2.0 and supports higher resolutions at more frames per second. HDMI 2.1 has a higher bandwidth of 48 Gbs than its predecessor (18 Gbs). HDMI 2.1 thus supports a higher resolution of up to 8K 60Hz or 4K 120Hz. One of the highlights of HDMI 2. is the variable refresh rate VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), which reduces or eliminates delays, jerking and image tearing for smoother gameplay.
It is particularly important to establish the connection between the gaming PC/console using a suitable HDMI cable for a data rate of 48 Gbps. The quality requirements for the cable are higher. Because of the high bandwidth with HDMI 2.1, the signal is significantly more attenuated. A cable for HDMI 2.1 transmission must therefore be better, thicker and shorter - at least if the highest video resolution is used.
In order for a player to be able to use HDMI 2.1 features, all connected HDMI sinks must support it. So if you want to operate a PS5 with 4K 120Hz on a television and projector, both must be able to process it. So the video projector also needs HDMI 2.1 support. Otherwise, only the maximum format of the "worse" display is used. So you really have to switch everything to HDMI 2.1 to be able to use 4K 120Hz on both displays.
This mainly depends on your setup and the connected devices. If you have a display, it is best to use the VSW1210 (HDMI Switch 2 In 1 Out) and if you want to connect more than two players, the VSW1410 (HDMI Switch 4 In 1 Out). If you also want to connect a second display or extract the sound to a sound system, then the VMS14201 (HDMI Matrix Switch 4 In 2 Out).
