HDMI Audio Extractor for separate audio output
- Function: delivers the sound of an HDMI source e.g. Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Blu-ray additionally digitally via SPDIF Toslink / Coaxial and analogue via Cinch to a sound system
- Connection: via HDMI to source (media player, notebook, etc.) and TV/projector, via RCA to stereo system, via SPDIF to soundbar or AV receiver
- Supported audio formats : Stereo, Dolby Digital / DTS 5.1 via SPDIF, pass for higher formats, no analog output from TV sound via ARC, audio formats are not converted
- Supported formats Video : up to 4k 60Hz HDR Dolby Vision, no support for HDMI 2.1 and VRR/Freesync
- Please note: TV audio via HDMI-ARC can only be output via SPDIF, not analog. Volume control of the audio outputs is generally not possible via the TV or player remote control.
The HDMI Audio Extractor VAX00102 allows you to route the audio signal of an HDMI stream directly to an AV receiver or active speakers, while passing the HDMI signal through unaltered and lossless. The extractor supports video resolutions up to Ultra HD / 4K HDR or Dolby Vision with a data rate of up to 18 Gbps and is fully backward compatible with lower resolutions. A switch allows you to switch the extractor to HDMI 1.3/1.4 for improved compatibility with an older HDMI player when using a modern HDMI 2.1 TV.
With support for ARC (Audio Return Channel), you can output your TV's audio via the audio extractor's digital outputs ( not the analog RCA outputs). Switching between the TV's audio and an external player is done manually using the ARC button.
The Audio Mode switch lets you select the desired audio format when multiple formats are available. This allows you to play 5.1 surround sound on a monitor or video projector. The switch offers three settings:
- Auto / Bypass : The extractor automatically selects the best available sound format depending on what your connected device (e.g. your TV) supports.
- 2.0 (Stereo) : The audio signal is output in stereo (16/20/24 bit, 44.1/48 kHz) on all outputs.
- 5.1 (Surround Sound) : If 5.1 sound is transmitted via the HDMI signal, the extractor outputs the signal in 5.1 format (supports AC3/Dolby Digital, DTS).
Important instructions :
- Dolby Digital Plus and HD audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD , DTS-HD , or multi-channel PCM can only be passed through HDMI and cannot be extracted . These formats are therefore not available via the Audio Extractor.
- However, you can output stereo (LPCM 2.0) or 5.1 sound (Dolby Digital/AC3 or DTS) via the digital SPDIF outputs (Toslink or coaxial) – depending on the source material.
- The same audio format is output at all outputs, with the analog stereo outputs remaining muted for 5.1 sound.
- To transmit 5.1 audio over SPDIF, set the HDMI source to Bitstream instead of PCM and select Dolby Digital instead of Dolby Digital Plus . Remember to adjust the volume on the source or sound system, not the TV.
- No HDMI-CEC control commands are supported.
