This HDMI 2.0 Audio Extractor routes the sound of an HDMI signal to an AV receiver or active speakers. The HDMI signal is passed through without loss. Resolutions up to Ultra-HD/ 4K HDR are supported (up to 18 GBit/s data rate). The VAX00102 is downward compatible with all low resolutions. A downgrade to HDMI 1.3/1.4 is possible via a switch. This can improve the compatibility of some older HDMI devices with HDMI 2.0 televisions. ARC (Audio Return Channel) is supported. This allows the TV sound to be output via the digital outputs of the Audio Extractor (not via Cinch analogue). Switching between sound from the TV or external player must be done manually.
Scope of delivery: Extractor, power supply
With the audio mode switch, you can determine which sound format the HDMI source outputs if several sound formats are possible. This means that the HDMI source can also deliver 5.1 sound when connected to a stereo TV, for example. The switch has 3 settings:
Note: Dolby Digital Plus and HD sound formats such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD or also multi-channel PCM can only be transmitted via HDMI. These can NOT be extracted. Via SPDIF Toslink or Coaxial, stereo (LPCM 2.0) or 5.1 sound (Dolby Digital/AC-3 or DTS) can be transmitted, depending on the source material. The same audio format arrives at all outputs. With 5.1 sound, the analogue stereo outputs therefore remain mute.
To make the transmission of 5.1 sound via SPDIF work, set the HDMI source to Bitstream instead of PCM. And select Dolby Digital, not Dolby Digital Plus. The volume must be set on the source or sound system, not on the TV.
